Italian motorcycle manufacturers have consistently produced some of the most beautiful, technically innovative, and culturally significant machines in the history of motorcycling. At South Wales Classic Motorbikes, Italian classics occupy a special place in our collection and our affections — machines that combine mechanical artistry with a riding experience unlike anything else on the road.
MV Agusta: Racing Royalty
MV Agusta’s road bikes of the 1970s were essentially race machines with lights. The 750 Sport and 750S America are among the most desirable and valuable classics in the world — hand-built, extraordinarily fast for their era, and finished to a standard that reflected the company’s dominance of Grand Prix motorcycle racing throughout the 1950s and 60s. Owning an MV Agusta is owning a piece of history.
Ducati: The Bevel-Drive Era
Ducati’s classic period — from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s — produced the bevel-drive singles and twins that established the marque’s sporting reputation. The 750 SS, 900 SS, and 860 GT are machines of genuine character and performance. The sound of a Ducati desmodromic bevel twin at full throttle is one of motorcycling’s great experiences.
Laverda: The Aggressive Alternative
Laverda built its reputation on tough, fast, and uncompromisingly sporting machines. The 750 SF and the later three-cylinder Jota and RGS are raw, characterful motorcycles that demand engagement from the rider. The Jota in particular — with its 180-degree crankshaft and howling exhaust note — is a motorcycle of extraordinary personality.
Moto Guzzi: The Long Game
Moto Guzzi’s transverse V-twin configuration is one of the most distinctive in motorcycling — and one of the most enduring. The Le Mans, the California, and the 850 T-series offer a unique combination of torquey, relaxed performance and exceptional character. Guzzi ownership is a deeply personal experience.
